What is Latanoprost ?
Latanoprost is a new phenyl substituted propyl ester prostaglandin F2a, which is a selective F2a receptor agonist. It is an inactive substance that can quickly penetrate into the cornea. It can be hydrolyzed into active free acids in cornea and plasma. It can increase the outflow of aqueous humor through the canthus layer. The dosage is small, but it can promote the filling of aqueous humor. The liquid medicine can penetrate into the upper layer of ciliary choroid on the eyeball, and has a good effect of reducing intraocular pressure.

Function:
Latanoprost ophthalmic solution is a medication administered into the eyes to control the progression of glaucoma or ocular hypertension by reducing intraocular pressure. It is a prostaglandin analogue (more specifically an analogue of prostaglandin F2α) that lowers the pressure by increasing the outflow of aqueous fluid from the eyes through the uvealsclearal tract. Latanoprost is an isopropyl ester prodrug, meaning it is inactive until it is hydrolyzed by esterases in the cornea to the biologically active acid.
Application:
Use for the treatment of glaucoma.
Adverse effects: mild to moderate conjunctival or scleral hyperemia may occur with topical agents. Occasionally, slight redness of the eyes. During the first 2-3 days of treatment, there will be a slight foreign body sensation in the eyes, and a rash may occur in a small number of patients
