Audited Supplier Vitamin B12, referred to as VB12, also known as cobalamin, one of the B vitamins, is a class of cobalt-containing complex organic compounds, the trivalent cobalt contained in the porphyrin-like gollinoid ring plane center. It is the largest and most complex vitamin molecule found and the only one containing metal ions. Its crystallization is red, so it is also called red vitamin. Plants do not contain VB12 and cannot make it. Liver is the best source of VB12, followed by milk, meat, eggs, fish and so on. Deficiency of VB12 in vivo can cause pathological changes in the nervous system such as peripheral nerve and central encephalopathy. A prototype of a family of natural cobalt coordination compounds called corrinoids. Vitamin B12 analogues differ only in the beta ligand of cobalt, called cobalamin. Almost entirely synthesized by bacteria. Dietary sources include fish, meat, liver and dairy products; There is little or no cobalamin in plants. Methylcobalamin and cobalamin act as co-factors of enzymes and are converted by the body into their biologically active forms. Severe deficiency can lead to megaloblastic anemia and/or nerve damage. The discovery of vitamin B12 was first attributed to the work carried out in the treatment of a malignant anemia named after the English physician Addison. It was an incurable disease at the time, and in 1926 Minot and Murphy discovered that it could be cured by ingesting large quantities of raw liver, for which they were awarded the 1934 Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine. Following the discovery of Minot and Murphy, this malignant anaemia was successfully treated with liver concentrate. In 1948, Riches in the United States and Smith and Parker in the United Kingdom separated a red crystal from liver concentrate and named it vitamin B12. In the same year, R.W. of Columbia University in the United States proved that malignant anaemia can be effectively treated by injecting vitamin B12. Then in 1955, D. Hedgkin et al. determined the crystal structure of vitamin B12 by X-ray analysis. He won the 1964 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for his work. In 1972, Woodward successfully completed the complete synthesis of vitamin B12.

1.
