Vitamin K2 is essential for the carboxylation of glutamate residues in certain proteins, to give carboxyglutamate.This modification allows the protein to bind calcium, an essential event in the blood clotting cascade. Carboxylation of glutamate is also important in other proteins involved in the mobilization or transport of calcium.

Vitamin K2 is a collective term for a series of terpene side chain compounds containing 2-methyl-1,4-naphthoquinone mother nuclei and C3 positions with varying numbers of isoprene structural units. According to the number of carbon elements on the terpene side chain, it can be divided into K2 (10), K2 (20), K2 (35), K2 (40), etc.
Vitamin K2 is a lipid soluble vitamin, a derivative of the naphthoquinone group with chlorophyloquinone biological activity, and is one of the indispensable and important vitamins in the human body.
