Glutathione (GSH) is a tripeptide that contains an unusual peptide linkage between the amine group of cysteine (which is attached by normal peptide linkage to a glycine) and the carboxyl group of the glutamate side-chain. It is an antioxidant, preventing damage to important cellular components caused by reactive oxygen species such as free radicals and peroxides.Thiol groups are reducing agents, existing at a concentration of approximately 5 mM in animal cells. Glutathione reduces disulfide bondsformed within cytoplasmic proteins to cysteines by serving as an electron donor. In the process, glutathione is converted to its oxidized form glutathione disulfide (GSSG), also called L(-)-Glutathione.

1. It can alleviate the weakening of myocardial contractility and the reduction of phosphocreatine and adenosine triphosphate content during acute ischemia, maintain the morphological structure of mitochondria in ischemic myocardial cells, and have a certain protective effect on ischemic myocardium.
2. Increasing cardiac output and reducing peripheral resistance are beneficial to the treatment of heart failure, which may inhibit the synthesis and secretion of aldosterone and block its effect on renal tubules.
3. When the isolated ventricular muscles of animals were perfused under hypoxia, the duration of action potential was shortened, and the threshold of ventricular arrhythmia was higher than that of control animals.
4. It can reduce peripheral vascular resistance and have an anti aldosterone effect.
5. Coenzyme Q10 has cardiotoxic and liver protective effects against doxorubicin.
