A traditional medicine for joint and bone health (as well as various female diseases and menopause), and has shown promise for promoting the rate of bone growth. It has gained popularity as a combined supplement for athletes, and preliminary evidence supports these properties.
Cissus Quadrangularis Leaf Extract (Emerald Pavilion) is a traditional medicine that is often thought to come from Ayurveda, but since it is grown in many places, there appear to be many medicinal sites. Its traditional use has centered around treating women's ailments (menopause, sexual desire, and menstrual disorders) or treating bones (increasing bone mass or speeding up fracture healing rates), giving it the traditional name "bone fixator." Other traditional uses are associated with their supposed anti-ulcer, anti-blister, and pain relieving properties.
It is most commonly used by athletes and seems to be a very effective painkiller in rodent studies, but it seems promising as an alternative to joint pain in athletes, as most joint health products have no evidence in athletes (instead, most studies are in osteoarthritis patients).
