What is Allicin Powder?

Allicin is an organosulfur compound obtained from garlic, a species in the family AlliaceaeWhen fresh garlic is chopped or crushed, the enzyme alliinase converts alliin into allicin, which is responsible for the aroma of fresh garlic. The allicin generated is unstable and quickly changes into a series of other sulfur-containing compounds such as diallyl disulfide. Allicin is part of a defense mechanism against attacks by pests on the garlic plant.

Allicin is a white to light yellow flowable powder, with a liquid agent of light yellow to brown volatile oily liquid and a strong garlic odor. Allicin has strong antibacterial effects and can inhibit various Gram positive cocci and Gram negative bacilli at extremely low concentrations. It also has inhibitory effects on molds, viruses, protozoa, pinworms, etc. It has obvious inhibitory effect on Escherichia coli and dysentery bacillus.
