DXM HBR is the dextro-isomer of mor phine-like levom-orphan meth-yl ether, which exerts central anti tussive effect by inhibiting the medullary cough center. Its antitussive strength is comparable to or slightly stronger than cod eine. No analgesic effect, no tolerance and addiction in long-term application. Therapeutic doses do not inhibit respiration. Oral absorption is good, it takes 15-30 minutes to take effect, and the effect can last for 3-6 hours. The concentration of the original drug in the plasma is very low, and its main active metabolite, 3-methoxy morphinane, has a high concentration in the plasma, with a t1/2 of 5 hours.
