Fullerene C60, diamond and graphite are three allotropy of carbon. Football alkene molecule is a stable molecule formed by the combination of 60 carbon atoms. It has 60 vertices and 32 faces, of which 12 are regular pentagon and 20 are regular hexagons. It is similar to football, so it is also called football alkene. Footballene was proposed by Kroto H.W. and Smalley R.E of Rice University in Houston, USA in 1985. They used high-power laser beams to bombard graphite and vaporize it. They used helium gas at a pressure of 1MPa to generate ultrasound, causing the carbon atoms vaporized by the laser beam to expand into a vacuum through a small nozzle and rapidly cool down. The composition and structure of C60 and C60 have been proven by experiments such as mass spectrometry and X-ray analysis. In addition, many molecules similar to C60, such as C70, have also been discovered one after another.
