Function: Salicin has antipyretic, analgesic, anti-inflammatory and anti rheumatic effects. In addition, it also has a bitter taste and a local anesthetic effect. It can also be used as a biochemical reagent.
1. Treating fever, colds, and infections---As a 'natural aspirin', salicylic glycoside is used to treat mild fever, colds, infections, acute and chronic rheumatic discomfort, headaches, and pain caused by inflammation. As its natural configuration, salicylic acid can be harmlessly converted into salicylic acid in the blood and liver through the gastrointestinal system.
2. Reduce arthritis pain and back pain---Salicin is believed to be the source of anti inflammation and pain relief ability of white willow bark. The analgesic effect of white willow bark is usually slower but lasts longer than that of regular aspirin products. The use of high-dose white willow bark extract may also help alleviate back pain.
Dosage: It can effectively utilize the white willow bark extract with salicylic acid as the standard. The recommended intake dose of salicylic acid is 60-120mg per day. However, recent studies have shown that higher intake levels such as 240mg per day may be more effective in treating pain.
Safety: Similar to aspirin, some people may experience gastrointestinal discomfort after taking salicylic acid. Although such symptoms are more likely to come from aspirin than white willow bark extract, people with ulcers and gastritis should also avoid using this medication. Moreover, like aspirin, white willow bark extract cannot be used to treat fever in children.
