Function
Menthol has antipruritic, analgesic, antiseptic, stimulating, anesthetic, cooling and anti-inflammatory effects, and can treat headaches, neuralgia, itching and respiratory inflammation, atrophic rhinitis, hoarseness, etc. It is widely used as flavoring agent for cigarettes, cosmetics, toothpaste, perfume, toilet water, beverages and candies.
Menthol, also known as menthol and mint ice, is a cyclic terpene alcohol flavor and fragrance, which appears as colorless needle-shaped or spindle-shaped crystals or white crystalline powder. It has a special aroma of mint. It tastes hot at first and then cool. The ethanol solution shows a neutral reaction. It is easily soluble in ethanol, chloroform, petroleum ether, liquid paraffin or volatile oil, and is very slightly soluble in water. There are three asymmetric carbon atoms in the molecular structure, so it has four stereoisomers, and their aroma intensity and type and cooling sensation are also different. There are two common types of menthol: natural menthol and synthetic menthol. Application
1. Menthol can act on the sensory nerve endings of the skin, causing a cooling sensation on the skin surface to relieve itching. External application to the affected area can be used to treat urticaria, prurigo, prickly heat, Chemicalbook rash, neurodermatitis, skin pruritus, etc.
