Function & Application

1. Diuretic effect---Sophora flavescens, as a medicinal plant, has a history of over 2000 years in China according to written records. Its main functions include clearing heat, diuresis, killing insects, dispelling dampness, and also has various effects such as antiviral, anti-tumor, and anti-allergic effects.

2. Antibiotic activity---The decoction has an inhibitory effect on Mycobacterium tuberculosis at a high concentration (1:100) in a test tube. Decoctions (8%) have varying degrees of inhibitory effects on certain common skin fungi in vitro.

3. Other functions---Injection of matrine into rabbits: central nervous system paralysis was found, accompanied by spasms, ultimately resulting in respiratory arrest and death. Injected into a frog: initially excited, then paralyzed, breathing becomes slow and irregular, and finally spasms occur, resulting in respiratory arrest and death. The onset of spasms is caused by spinal cord reflex.

4. The anti hepatitis B and C virus effects of oxymatrine alkaloids---Oxymatrine has shown strong antiviral activity against HBV in vitro and in animal models, as well as in humans. There have been many reports of its use in the treatment of chronic viral hepatitis.

5.Agricultural application--- Matrine is a natural plant-based pesticide with low toxicity to humans and livestock. It is a broad-spectrum insecticide with contact and gastric toxicity effects. It has obvious control effects on various crops such as sticky worms, cabbage worms, aphids, and red spiders. It has ideal control effects on aphids, Lepidoptera insects, tea caterpillars, diamondback moths, as well as tea leafhoppers, white powdery lice, and other vegetable stinging mouthparts.
